Melissa Gilbert and ‘Mike & Jon in the Morning’ team up for us

Actor and Author Melissa Gilbert

Melissa Gilbert, Livingston County’s newest celebrity resident, and  WHMI’s Morning Crew, Mike & Jon, are giving the community something to trick…or tweet…about this week.

The trio is teaming up to host a Halloween fundraiser for LACASA by auctioning off a vintage 1976 Laura of Little House on the Prairie costume on Ebay.

Gilbert stopped by the WHMI studio for a surprise visit recently. It was the perfect opportunity for Mike & Jon in the Morning to ask Gilbert if she would autograph the collectible piece of yesteryear.

The all-American costume was donated to the station earlier this year by Howell resident David Hayes, a local author and actor, to commemorate Gilbert’s move to Howell in July, 2013.

Gilbert graciously signed the costume (which she remembers seeing in department stores during her childhood).

Jon King, WHMI news director, asked Gilbert if the station could auction the costume off for charity. Gilbert was enthused about raising funds for LACASA Center, the only nonprofit in Livingston County solely dedicated to helping victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault.

LACASA is thrilled that Melissa Gilbert and WHMI’s morning crew, Mike & Jon, are teaming up to help victims on their journey of recovery and healing.  (We will send the winning bidder a tax deductible receipt.)

Gilbert has a long list of television, movie and theatrical credits. She served as President of the Screen Actors Guild from 2001 – 2005 and published her autobiography in 2009. Gilbert is married to Michigan native, Timothy Busfield, fellow actor and a notable director. The couple moved to Howell earlier this year.

You can follow Gilbert on Twitter >>  and send her a thank-you tweet for supporting LACASA!
