Cinderella’s Closet Rebrands the Storybook

LACASA’s Cinderella’s Closet is twirling out a new brand identity and redesigning its boutique this season.

Cinderella’s Closet is an awareness-building and fundraising event that offers high school girls a chance to shop for gently-used party attire while helping charity and learning how to stay substance free on special celebration nights.

The new brand identity program for Cinderella’s Closet was designed by graphic artist Susan Pominville of Abovo Visual Communications in Howell.

“We are so grateful to Susan who designed all the elements of our new brand identity campaign on a volunteer basis,” said Hollie Heikkinen, Cinderella’s Closet program chair. “Our new logo, tagline and promotional materials reflect a more sophisticated look.”

The boutique is a favorite spot for teens to shop for prom gowns and homecoming dresses at budget-friendly prices, Heikkinen said. “We wanted to update our brand to appeal to discriminating teen shoppers.”

The new logo—a blend of pink and green typography elements—was designed to complement this environmentally-friendly event that offers upscale fashions at deep-discount prices, said Heikkinen.

Cinderella’s Closet also has a new tagline: “Fairytale dresses at vintage prices.”

Changes Inside and Out

“Our boutique is being transformed this season. We are painting and redecorating to create a lovely setting for girls to shop with their friends and family members,” Heikkinen said.

Cinderella’s Closet is held at Snedicor’s Green Earth Cleaners in Brighton twice a year during the spring prom and fall homecoming seasons. Snedicor’s accepts dress donations all year long and provides free “green earth” cleaning for donated dresses.

“We are thankful to Jim Gilligan, owner of Snedicor’s, for allowing us to rearrange and revamp his establishment for this event,” Heikkinen said.

Heikkinen—along with a team of dedicated committee members—work hard each season to create an atmosphere where young women feel welcome and comfortable shopping.

“Girls come to our boutique from all over Southeastern Michigan,” said Heikkinen. “We want them to feel special when they are here.”

Dresses at Cinderella’s Closet are $25 dollars and all proceeds go to benefit abused children and victims of interpersonal violence at LACASA.

“The young woman who shop at our boutique are extraordinary,” Heikkinen said. “They find it rewarding to recycle and reimagine special occasion dresses and at the same time support a worthy cause.”  

Pledging to Stay Safe

Girls who shop the boutique are invited to sign the “party promise,” a pledge that asks girls to stay substance free on special occasions.

The pledge encourages girls to avoid using alcohol or drugs so they can enjoy their evenings and have clear memories that will last a lifetime. This commitment also reminds girls that incidents of dating violence and sexual assault often are linked to substance abuse.

Young women who sign the pledge are entered in a promise raffle for special items donated by sponsors such as jewelry, accessories, and gift certificates for photography sessions, makeup treatments, and hair salon appointments.

Cinderella’s Closet began eight years ago and has continued to grow in popularity. Last year, more than 300 high school girls shopped the boutique for their perfect party dress.

Full scholarships are available for girls who need financial assistance in order to afford the dress of their dreams.

Cinderella’s Closet is rolling out its new brand identity this week. Postcards and posters will be distributed throughout the community to publicize the boutique’s dates for spring prom season.
