How LACASA Helps

Fees, Funding & Service Areas

  • All victims and survivor services are provided at no charge
  • Funding is made possible through grants and private donations from the community
  • We offer community education programs and provide services for survivors from Livingston County, Michigan, as well as Oakland, Genesee, Wayne, and Washtenaw counties

FAST FACTS

LACASA Crisis Shelter

  • Our 20-bed facility includes a full-service kitchen, large dining area, common living room, serenity room, teen area, child’s play room, and outdoor play ground.
  • Our shelter families often arrive with nothing. We provide their essentials, including personal care items, sleep ware, clothing, shoes, school backpacks, and school supplies. Each room includes fresh bedding, pillows and towels. Strollers and portable cribs also are provided.
  • All food is provided at no charge
  • We collaborate with local school districts to ensure that the education of our shelter children is not interrupted
  • We provide on-site laundry facilities and laundry supplies
  • Transportation costs are always an issue for shelter residents and our new transitions housing clients.  We strive to provide gas cards and LETs bus passes
  • When our shelter is full to capacity, we provide and fund secure alternative housing for the family until a room at the shelter becomes available

Sexual Assault Response Center

  • LACASA is 1 of only 13 SANE programs in Michigan operated by a nonprofit agency
  • Compassionate, confidential and private care provided away from public emergency rooms
  • Services available for females and males age 12 and above
  • Staffed by Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE is a national program)
  • State-of-the-art examination room
  • Highly-advanced forensic evidence gathering equipment
  • Immediate support provided by our On-Call Response Team
  • Ongoing support provided at our Counseling Center
  • Special Sexual Assault Support Group for survivors and their families

 Safe Pet Place

  • LACASA is the only shelter in Michigan to accept family pets; and one of only a dozen who offer such shelter nationally
  • We have 2 fully-equipped kennel facilities
  • We accept most household pets including dogs, cats, birds, guinea pigs, hamsters, and iguanas
  • Local volunteer veterinarians offer wellness checks
  • We provide all pet food and supplies
