Join LACASA’s Shine the Light campaign during the month of October. When you display purple lights in the windows of your home or business, you take a stand against domestic violence and join in remembering victims as well as honoring the courage of survivors.

Area businesses and residents are invited to shine purple lights in store windows, porch lights, or residential streetlamps.

String lights and bulbs are available for purchase now at LACASA Center (see below).

Campaign posters that accompany the lights are available at LACASA with the message: Domestic Violence Has No Place in Our Community.

This initiative is part of Purple Light Nights®, a national movement to raise awareness about domestic violence. LACASA is the first organization in Michigan to adopt this program.

“We are excited about the response this campaign is receiving from the community,” said Nicole Matthews-Creech, LACASA Community Education Director. “Supporters are eager to take the shame out of domestic violence by illuminating purple lights that signify hope and courage.

The campaign sends a message, Creech said. “It shows abusers that we will not tolerate violent behavior. It shows survivors that we honor their courage. And, for those still living with abuse, it shows that support and help are available.”

Each year, LACASA provides crisis shelter, counseling, legal advocacy and critical resources for victims and survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault from Livingston County.

“There is power in numbers” Creech said. “We look forward to seeing the county illuminated in purple, the national domestic violence cause color.”
