Boutique Store Manager Opening

LACASA Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is opening a retail boutique in Howell, Michigan and is currently seeking a Boutique Manager. This is a full-time, salaried position. 

The boutique will offer new, like-new and gently-used clothing for children, women and men; jewelry and wardrobe accessories; toys and books; decor and housewares; and upscale home furnishings. Members of the community will be invited to support the store by donating goods or by shopping for goods. LACASA clients will receive purchasing vouchers, empowering them to shop with dignity for personal and household needs of their choosing. Store proceeds will return directly to LACASA to support programs and services for victims of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. The store’s earnings will stay local and help provide financial sustainability for LACASA to carry out its mission in the community. 

Boutique Manager – General Description

The Boutique Manager, reporting directory to the President & CEO, has direct responsibility for the day-to-day running of the boutique. In addition, the manager is to: develop business strategies; maximize profits while minimizing costs; provide excellent customer service; supervise employees and volunteers; and oversee logistics. The manager must be both a strategic thinker and a hands-on implementer. She/he must be highly motivated, detail-oriented and have excellent communication skills. Active commitment to the values of our organization and energetic engagement with our mission-driven team of colleagues and volunteers will be essential to success.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or relevant commensurate experience preferred. Minimum five years retail or resale management experience is required. Candidate will have the most success if they have a background in financial planning, are customer focused, have market knowledge, and are results driven. Effective leadership skills are essential. Knowledge of strategic planning and social media preferred.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Completes store operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees (includes clients as employees) and volunteers; follows up on work results
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Manages and motivates a team to increase sales and ensure efficiency
  • Manages budgets
  • Manages stock levels and makes key decisions about stock control
  • Analyzing sales figures and forecasts future sales
  • Analyzes and interprets trends to facilitate planning
  • Uses information technology to record sales figures for data analysis and forward planning 
  • Prepares reports for Presidents & CEO, Store Boutique Committee and LACASA’s Board of Directors
  • Deals with staffing and volunteer issues such as interviewing potential staff and volunteers; conducts appraisals and performance reviews
  • Provides training and development for staff and volunteers
  • Ensures standards for quality, customer services and health and safety are met
  • Responds to customer complaints and comments
  • Organizes special promotional, displays and events
  • Walks the sales floor regularly, talking to colleagues and customers
  • Maintains awareness of market trends in the industry, understanding forthcoming customer initiatives and monitoring what local competitors are doing
  • Initiates changes to improve the business; monitors store hours to ensure that store can compete effectively in the local market
  • Promotes the business locally by liaising with community organizations
  • Deals with sales as required
  • Coordinates online sales initiatives
  • Directs operations by initiating, coordinating and enforcing programs, operations and personnel policies and procedures
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviews professional publications; establishes professional networks; and participates in professional organizations 
  • Works to establish and grow the business and its brand  
  • Other duties as assigned
