Brave-hearted men and boys from Livingston County take a one-mile trek around Tanger Outlet Center every April to raise funds and awareness about sexual assault and gender violence.

LACASA’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® event is held in April during National Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

Walkers secure pledge donations from family, friends and coworkers to make the mile-long walk in women’s shoes — from high-heeled boots and fashionable pumps to fuzzy slippers and anything in between.

This is a fun event for the whole family to enjoy. Our Flair Station is a favorite place for daughters to polish their father’s toes or primp up participants before the walk begins. We also have a Shoe Boutique with a wide selection of man-sized footwear for participants to borrow and wear during the event.

Walkers who donate and/or secure pledge contributions of $60 or more receive one of LACASA’s Walk a Mile T-shirts or baseball caps.

Many participants form teams to increase their chance at winning one of our two traveling trophies. Past trophy winners include members of local law enforcement agencies and EMS departments.

We also give out a variety of award certificates at the event. Secret judges roam the crowd and select footwear-forward award winners.

Help us pump up this event next April!

Why Victims Don’t Tell: Sandusky case sheds light on complexities of sexual abuse

The conviction of former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky captured the nation’s attention and cast a spotlight on an endless question: Why don’t victims tell? Tell a parent? Tell a teacher? Tell a friend? Tell someone? We know the question well at LACASA. It comes up repeatedly in our line of work, which [...]
